BYU vs Notre Dame: Is this the True Holy War of College Football?

Since 1992 it has been coined as the “Battle of the Blessed” but many believe that this Round 7 Heavyweight Clash in College Football could be relabeled as the unofficial Holy War in the NCAA Division I FBS.

For almost a Quarter Decade the Football Rivalry between Brigham Young University (5-0) and Notre Dame (6-0) has sparked serious debate as to which Christian University is truly “Favored by God.” Having met a total 7 times since their first match on October 24th 1992, it is the Fighting Irish that lead the score 5-2, with their last victory over the Cougars back in late 2022 at Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas.

Although they’ve faced off on multiple occasion, there’s something special about this one, as this will be the First Time both BYU (#8) and Notre Dame (#2) have played each other while been ranked simultaneously in the History of their respective programs.

Speaking of History, one of the most significant meetings came in 1993, when undefeated Notre Dame defeated BYU 14–13 in South Bend, Indiana. The narrow victory helped the Fighting Irish maintain their National Championship hopes during a memorable season.

And 33 years later, that narrative seems to be the same today! The Fighting Irish’s College Football Playoff hopes are heavily dependent on the outcome of this game, after narrowly missing out last year in 2025, regardless of their stellar 10-2 record the past season.

While much has been made of Notre Dame’s Offense led by Head Coach Marcus Freeman and Projected 2027 NFL 1st Round Pick C.J Carr, the focal point of BYU Football in the 2026 College Football Season has been Quarterback Bear Bachmeier (#47), who has shown sensational poise all season, having already thrown for 1000+ yards, with 8 Touchdowns,1 intercept, and 79% Completion Rate.

Accompanied by an intimidating Defensive Unit inspired by the likes of Cade Uluave, Linebacker (#4) and Keanu Tanuvasa, Defensive Tackle (#57), Bachmeier and BYU also lead College Football in Red Zone Execution with a 100% success rate of turning possession into points via touchdowns.

ESPN College Gameday are on-site at Provo, Utah. Thousands of Students, Fans, and Cougar Nation Faithful camping out since yesterday morning to secure their spot near the Broadcast Stage.

Reece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, and Coach Nick Saban ALL confirmed to be in attendance to breakdown one of the biggest weeks in College Football.

Whether you’re a Mormon or a Catholic. Loyal to Cougar Nation or Fighting Irish Proud. There’s one aspect of this battle for Gods Glory BOTH fan bases can agree on. In Matthew 18:20 our Good Lord states “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” It’s safe to say that a sold out LaVerne Edwards Stadium, filled with over 63 Thousand Christians will invite the Lord’s presence in some capacity.

Rest assured while there are certainly some glaring differences between the two schools, religions, and football teams- one thing is for sure- this game is bigger than the name written on the back and front of each players jersey, for a match truly made in Heaven.

God Bless You All!
